The library stands as the heart of the institute, playing a crucial role in supporting teaching and learning systems with a wealth of reading materials. Established in 1998, the Shikshan Prasarak Santa’s Shri. Omkarnath Malpani Law College Late Advocate Purushottam (Appasaheb) Waman Akolkar Library, also known as the Learning Resource Centre, has continually expanded its collection, becoming a valuable asset to the college. The library's mission aligns with that of the institute by fostering the creation of new knowledge through the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of legal information resources, along with providing value-added services. It also aims to develop an extensive collection of electronic legal information, with housekeeping activities computerized using VRIDDHI software. The library boasts a reading room that can accommodate 50+ students at a time.
Currently, the library houses a collection of over 10,000 books, comprising more than 3,600 titles, 5,400 textbooks, and 4,300 reference books. It features a diverse array of law books, periodicals, bound volumes of law journals, and 120 rare books. Additionally, the library purchases various knowledge-based books and periodicals to enhance students' understanding, subscribing to 15 print periodicals and four daily newspapers in both Marathi and English. Contributions from trustees and former students, including both legal and general knowledge books, further enrich the collection. Alumni and academicians are also granted access to these resources.
The Library Advisory Committee ensures the proper administration of the library, with significant guidance from Dr. Sanjay Malpani, Chairman of the Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha. His leadership has been pivotal in motivating the library’s development and growth, ensuring it supports the institution's educational mission, and promoting academic excellence.
The library offers a wide range of services and facilities, including circulation/book lending, internet service, OPAC/WEBOPAC, reference service, resource sharing, reading room facility, inter-library loan, alumni and external membership, facilities for disabled students, a syllabus, previous exam question papers, reprographic service, newspaper clippings, and a notice board, along with drinking water provision.
As part of its best practices, the library conducts orientations for newly enrolled students, database orientations (such as AIR Online and N-List), and hosts library events and programs like book exhibitions and Dr. S. R. Ranganathan Jayanti. It also awards trophies and certificates to the best user and best reviewer of the month during the law festival prize distribution. Additional initiatives include maintaining Telegram groups, collecting user feedback, and operating a library website with 30,000+ visits.
The library team comprises Librarian Shri. Shelar S. B. (M. Lib. & I. Sc., UGC-NET, MH-SET) and Library Attendant Shri. Shirpe N. B. (M. A., M. Lib. & I. Sc.). They ensure the library operates efficiently and remains an essential resource for the college community.
